New Staff

Not long after Marta Merced came to R.O.C.K. as an enthusiastic volunteer with a passion for horses, she applied for the horse care assistant position. Since last fall she has been helping care for our marvelous herd. We are grateful she manages to find time for R.O.C.K. while maintaining a full time position at the State of Texas offices during the day.  Marta understands what it takes to make our horses comfortable with clean surroundings.  She takes great care in her job and her dedication is much appreciated!

TAMUlogo.pngThe Texas A&M University System has approached R.O.C.K. to assist them in developing equine assisted activities and therapies at more of their campuses. We are working together on an agreement to guide our endeavor and are honored to help. It is our hope that this new partnership will also lead to opportunities for collaborative research with Texas A&M.

Please visit the R.O.C.K. Website for a link to the Family Survey. Your feedback is essential in helping us improve our services to you and your family. We are looking to compile 3 years of data and get the results out to families by the end of June.  Thank you!

HORSE TRIVIA

 Horseface.jpgDid you know…..

  • a horse can live well into their 40s
  • many of the horses at R.O.C.K. are over 20 years old
  • that many of these horses live long lives at ROCK because of the work they do
  • our horses also develop a special bond with their riders, discerning just what the rider needs during his or her therapy
  • many of our horses have interesting backgrounds, including pulling "royal carriages" at Disneyland, successful racing careers, and competitive horse shows
  • horses develop relationships with other horses.  Dee and Goldie, our two oldest horses, are like an old married couple and support each other every day
  • horses form cliques and have definite opinions and preferences, likes and dislikes, for other horses AND people
  • our current herd works constantly, with little down time, because the need for their services is so great
